The switch to chip cards is part of a global evolution in the payments industry, providing much greater capacity to store information and programs than current magnetic stripe technology. Chip cards have already been widely implemented in Europe and Asia, and are currently being introduced in Latin America, Africa and the Middle East.
Chip cards can carry more sophisticated and innovative payment applications, including enhanced security programs that provide better protection against unauthorized use of your card, protecting you against skimming, which involves the copying of private information from the magnetic stripe on your card. Unlike the magnetic stripe, a chip cannot be copied, which will protect you in the day-to-day use of your card, especially during your travel.
Therefore, upon purchasing abroad with the card at any POS or withdrawing cash from any ATM worldwide, the cardholder should always remember his secret code that protects his money and confidentiality. This system is most effective especially abroad and thus prevents unauthorized access to the card in case of theft during travel.
A new service is added to the Platinum chip card, “the Priority Pass” allowing Platinum cardholder to benefit from a free membership Priority Pass card and enjoy access to exclusive airport lounges.
For more information, you can explore the “Priority Pass” website.
Credit Libanais will be rolling out chip cards to consumers over the next couple of years. Upon expiry of your current magnetic card, Credit Libanais will replace your VISA magnetic card by a VISA Chip card.
